FMCSA has revoked 27 electronic logging devices in 2026 through March 4. Since October 17, 2025, the agency has removed 44 total devices from its Registered Devices list for failing to meet the minimum requirements in 49 CFR Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395. Carriers that continue using a revoked device after the replacement deadline may be treated as operating without a registered ELD.

As of March 19, 2026, two deadlines are still active: April 14, 2026 for the nine-device batch FMCSA removed on February 12, 2026, and May 4, 2026 for the 14-device batch removed on March 4, 2026. FMCSA says that after those dates, safety officials should cite 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) and place drivers out of service under CVSA criteria if they are still using those revoked devices.

Quick Answer

FMCSA has revoked 27 ELDs in 2026 through March 4, and 44 since October 17, 2025. The next carrier replacement deadlines are April 14, 2026 and May 4, 2026. If a fleet continues using one of those revoked devices after the deadline, FMCSA says the carrier may be treated as operating without a registered ELD.

⚠️ Active Enforcement Deadlines

  1. April 14, 2026: 9 devices revoked February 12 (GTS ELD, UTRUCKIN, ELD365, IRONMAN, FACTOR, and 4 AirELD models). Drivers using these devices after April 14 face out-of-service orders.
  2. May 4, 2026: 14 devices revoked March 4 (Club ELD, SaferLogs, EGreen ELD, and 10 Gorilla Fleet Safety devices). Drivers using these devices after May 4 face out-of-service orders.

This article covers every device FMCSA has revoked since October 2025, the enforcement process, what carriers and drivers should do to stay compliant, and how to verify your ELD’s status on the FMCSA registry.

The 2026 Revocation Timeline

FMCSA’s ELD enforcement pace has accelerated sharply. According to FreightWaves reporting, the agency revoked 34 devices across all of 2024. In the first three months of 2026, that number already stands at 27, spread across three separate enforcement actions.

Here is the full timeline of FMCSA ELD revocations since October 2025:

Date Devices Revoked Replacement Deadline Status
October 17, 2025 5 devices December 16, 2025 Enforcing
November 20, 2025 5 devices January 20, 2026 Enforcing
December 8, 2025 3 devices February 7, 2026 Enforcing
December 30, 2025 4 devices March 1, 2026 Enforcing
January 13, 2026 4 devices March 15, 2026 Enforcing
February 12, 2026 9 devices April 14, 2026 Active deadline
March 4, 2026 14 devices May 4, 2026 Active deadline

FMCSA’s recent ELD enforcement timeline is: 5 devices on October 17, 2025; 5 on November 20, 2025; 3 on December 8, 2025; 4 on December 30, 2025; 4 on January 13, 2026; 9 on February 12, 2026; and 14 on March 4, 2026. That is 44 removals since October 17, 2025, with 27 of them occurring in 2026 through March 4.

Each revocation follows the same process. FMCSA removes the device from the Registered Devices list and sends an industry-wide email notifying carriers. Carriers then have 60 days to transition to a compliant device. During that window, safety officials are encouraged not to cite drivers for missing RODS or ELD violations. After the deadline passes, the driver is considered to be operating without an ELD.

What Happens When a Device Gets Revoked

The revocation process follows a consistent pattern set by FMCSA:

  1. FMCSA moves the device to the Revoked Devices list at eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/list/Revoked and issues a press release.

  2. Carriers receive an industry-wide email notification from FMCSA with the device names, model numbers, and replacement deadline.

  3. 60-day grace period begins. During this window, carriers should stop using the revoked device and switch to paper logs or logging software. Safety officials are encouraged not to cite drivers for 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) or 49 CFR 395.22(a) during this period, and should instead review paper logs, logging software, or the ELD display as a backup.

  4. After the deadline, enforcement begins. Drivers still using a revoked device are treated as operating without any ELD. Safety officials cite 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) and place the driver out of service under CVSA criteria.

🏛️ Regulatory Authority: All ELD revocations are based on failure to meet the minimum requirements in 49 CFR Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395, which establishes the functional specifications for electronic logging devices.

4

Can a Revoked Device Come Back?

Yes. If an ELD provider corrects all deficiencies identified by FMCSA, the device can be reinstated to the Registered Devices list. This has happened several times in recent months: PREMIERRIDE LOGS was reinstated on January 23, 2026, DSGELOGS was reinstated on January 16, 2026 (both from the January 13 batch), and Forward Thinking Systems’ Field Warrior ELD was reinstated after being revoked on December 30, 2025.

Reinstatements are not common, though. FMCSA has noted that most providers do not resolve their compliance issues within the 60-day window. Carriers should not count on reinstatement as a strategy and should begin replacing affected devices immediately.

5

Why the Pace Is Accelerating

FMCSA has been moving faster on ELD enforcement under Administrator Derek Barrs. According to FreightWaves reporting, the agency revoked 34 devices across all of 2024, up 62% from 21 the prior year. The first three months of 2026 have already produced 27 revocations across three enforcement actions.

Part of this acceleration comes from FMCSA overhauling its ELD vetting process. The agency identified loopholes in the previous self-certification system that allowed substandard devices, and in some cases previously revoked devices, to re-register. According to Land Line reporting, FMCSA has announced a new vetting process that will include initial review, fraud detection, and application categorization before a device reaches the Registered Devices list. The tighter vetting is catching more noncompliant equipment faster.

The concentration in the March 4 batch is notable: 10 of the 14 devices came from Gorilla Fleet Safety, which according to Overdrive reporting has now had 18 devices revoked within the past year. For carriers, this highlights the risk of vendor concentration. If your entire fleet runs on devices from a single provider and that provider loses certification, every truck in your fleet could face compliance exposure at once.

⚠️ Vendor Concentration Risk

If your fleet relies on a single ELD provider and that provider’s devices are revoked, every truck in your fleet is affected simultaneously. Consider whether your ELD vendor has a history of revocations before renewing contracts. FMCSA’s Revoked Devices list shows the full enforcement history for each provider.

What Carriers Should Do Now

📌 Action Checklist

  • Check your ELD status. Visit eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/List and search for your device name, model number, or ELD identifier. If it appears on the Revoked list, act now.
  • Switch to paper logs immediately. Do not wait for the replacement deadline. Paper logs are your legal backup during the transition period.
  • Order a replacement ELD from the Registered Devices list. Only devices on the active Registered Devices list are compliant.
  • Document the transition. Keep records of your old device, the date you stopped using it, and the date you installed the replacement.
  • Sign up for FMCSA email alerts. Subscribe at eld.fmcsa.dot.gov to receive direct notification when devices are added or removed from the registry.

7

How to Verify Your ELD’s Registration

Checking your device takes about 30 seconds:

  1. Go to eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/List.
  2. Search by device name, provider name, or ELD identifier.
  3. If the device appears on the Registered list, it is currently compliant.
  4. If it appears on the Revoked list, or does not appear at all, it is not compliant and should not be used.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I keep using a revoked ELD after the deadline?

FMCSA says safety officials should cite 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) for “no record of duty status” and place the driver out of service under CVSA criteria. The violation may affect a carrier’s roadside enforcement history and HOS compliance profile.

Can I use paper logs while I wait for my new ELD?

Yes. FMCSA specifically directs carriers to revert to paper logs or logging software during the 60-day transition period. Make sure drivers are trained on proper paper log completion, since an incomplete paper log is itself a citable violation.

How do I know if my ELD provider has had devices revoked before?

Check the Revoked Devices list on FMCSA’s ELD site. It shows every device that has been removed, along with the provider name and revocation date. A provider with multiple revocations across different devices may indicate systemic compliance problems.

What if my provider says the revocation was a mistake?

At least one provider in the December 2025 batch publicly disputed its revocation, according to Overdrive reporting. Regardless of any provider dispute, the device remains on the Revoked list until FMCSA officially reinstates it. Carriers should not continue using a revoked device based on a provider’s assurances alone.

Does FMCSA notify me directly when my ELD is revoked?

FMCSA sends industry-wide email alerts through its subscriber list. These are not targeted to carriers using specific devices. If you are not subscribed, you may not learn about a revocation until a roadside inspection. Sign up at eld.fmcsa.dot.gov.
