About OneWayBIT

Commercial vehicle compliance software and inspection guidance for carriers across the United States.

Who We Are

OneWayBIT is a commercial vehicle compliance platform that helps fleet operators, compliance officers, and owner-operators track inspections, manage records, and stay ahead of DOT and BIT requirements across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

OneWayBIT was founded to solve a problem every commercial carrier faces: keeping up with inspection schedules, documentation requirements, and regulatory changes across multiple jurisdictions. The trucking industry operates under a complex web of federal and state regulations, and missing deadlines can increase the risk of citations, Out-of-Service orders, or audit findings.

We build software that tracks inspection deadlines, sends reminders before due dates, and keeps years of compliance records organized to support audit preparation. Our platform is used by carriers operating across the United States.

Our Mission

We publish state-by-state compliance guides, industry news, and regulatory updates to help commercial motor carriers understand and navigate their DOT and BIT inspection obligations. Our goal is to make compliance information accessible, well-sourced, and actionable, so carriers can focus on operations instead of paperwork.

Every piece of content we publish exists because a carrier, compliance officer, or owner-operator needed that information and couldn't find it in one clear place.

Experience & Expertise

Our compliance content is developed by a team with direct experience in the commercial vehicle industry. This includes hands-on familiarity with DOT and BIT inspection processes, FMCSA enforcement procedures, CVSA inspection standards, and the day-to-day challenges carriers face when managing multi-state compliance programs.

We don't write about compliance from a theoretical perspective. Our content reflects the practical realities of operating commercial vehicles under federal and state regulatory frameworks, including the inspection levels, violation categories, and enforcement patterns that affect real carriers every day.

How Our Content Is Produced

State compliance guides are built from primary regulatory sources:

  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR Parts 300–399 via eCFR)
  • FMCSA rulemaking, guidance, and enforcement actions (fmcsa.dot.gov)
  • CVSA inspection standards and out-of-service criteria (cvsa.org)
  • State-level DOT and highway patrol regulations, inspection programs, and enforcement policies
  • California's BIT program requirements administered by CHP (chp.ca.gov)

Industry news and regulatory updates are sourced from official government press releases, FMCSA Federal Register notices, CVSA bulletins, state agency publications, and verified industry news outlets. Each article links to its original source where applicable.

Content review process: All content is reviewed for clarity and reasonableness before publication. Guides are updated when regulatory changes occur or when new enforcement guidance is issued. Regulatory interpretations and enforcement practices may vary by jurisdiction.

Editorial Standards

We hold our content to the following standards:

  • Primary sources first. Guides reference official regulatory text, not secondary summaries. Links to source material are provided where applicable.
  • No outcome guarantees. We do not claim our content ensures compliance, prevents violations, or substitutes for professional advice.
  • Clear labeling. Original compliance deep-dives are distinct from summarized news. Scraped or aggregated news articles are labeled as summaries and include source attribution.
  • Regular updates. Guides are reviewed and updated when regulatory changes, enforcement actions, or new agency guidance warrant revisions.
  • Jurisdiction awareness. BIT terminology applies only to California. Federal and state-specific requirements are clearly distinguished.

OneWayBIT is not a government agency and does not issue official regulatory interpretations. This content is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. We recommend confirming specific requirements with the relevant agency or a qualified compliance professional.
